Augustana Athletics App

For our Computer Science Senior Inquiry project, we plan to develop an Augustana Athletics application that can allow users to see scores for previous games, live scores for current games, and times and locations for future games. First, the target audience for this app consists of Augustana students, the local community, families of the athletes, and the rest of the Augustana community - faculty, staff, alumni, etc. This app will help the audience stay updated with Augustana Athletics with more ease. Students can use the app to get notifications for when their favorite teams play and how they performed in past games. Community members can see when the teams they love are playing so they can attend the game. Families of the athletes can see how their athlete performs by viewing statistics from the game which allows them to see how their athlete played if they could not attend or even if they were there, but don’t quite understand the sport.  Second, the main reason to make this app is so that the Augustana community can support all of the sports teams on campus easily. Personalized feeds and notifications will make it simpler for the students to stay updated on the sports they are interested in. Even though the app overlaps with the Augie Athletics website greatly, this app will serve a valuable purpose by providing ease of access to its information as well as extending its features as described, including notifications and real-time information.

As mentioned above, our main feature that separates this app from the website is the ability to have push notifications and favorite teams. The first hurdle will be implementing the database with all of the statistics in it. Then we will work on allowing the users to favorite teams and get push notifications for only those. There will also be several different feeds: schedule of game feed, potential news feed, and a live game feed. We will have a menu for the user to be able to look at specific sports similar to the one currently on the Augustana Athletics website.

Essentially our project will be a combination of the ESPN app and the Augustana Athletics app.

Some of the technologies we will need to learn is database integration, push notifications, calendar app integration, and possibly JSON/GSON serializing.
